Program Info

Illinois HoopStars is a premier Travel/AAU basketball program serving athletes in grades 3–11 (ages 8–17). We compete in high-level tournaments throughout the Chicagoland area and surrounding states, providing players with opportunities to grow through elite competition.

Through our two program divisions — IL HoopStars Heat and IL HoopStars Academy — we offer travel teams during the spring, summer, and fall seasons for boys and girls ages 10U–17U (grades 4th–11th). Teams compete in national, regional, and local tournaments designed to challenge and develop players at every level.

Our Development Model

Illinois HoopStars provides two levels of travel basketball teams:

  • Elite Teams – For advanced players competing at the highest level

  • Academy Teams – Focused on skill development and growth

This tiered system creates an environment where all athletes can develop while providing motivation and opportunity. Players have the ability to earn promotion from an Academy team to an Elite team through hard work, performance, and commitment.

Our goal is to help every player — regardless of starting point — gain the skills, confidence, and exposure needed to prepare for the next level of their basketball journey.

Leadership & Character Development

At Illinois HoopStars, we develop more than athletes — we develop leaders.

We emphasize:

  • Strong communication with teammates and coaches

  • Respect for parents, teachers, mentors, and peers

  • Accountability and discipline

  • Mental toughness and resilience

  • Team-first sacrifice and character

We believe building character strengthens mental fortitude, competitiveness, and the willingness to sacrifice for team success — qualities that translate far beyond the basketball court.

TEAM LEVEL PLACEMENT

Directors and coaches of HoopStars will decide which team level a player will be based on evaluations during tryouts and workouts. Players are evaluated on all bases of the game of basketball; Game IQ, defense, offense, effort, leadership, communication etc.

PLAYER COMMITMENT & RESPONSIBILITIES

We expect players to communicate in an efficient manner and parents to communicate in an adequate manner with program directors and coaches. This will help everyone work together towards the same goals. Certain expectations of players such as GPA minimums (Report Card requirements), practice and game attendance, commitment to the team, etc We want players that contribute to their development as a basketball player with us, and the collective team effort to compete and win games
